Brenda Bokenyi has always been an artist. As a young girl, she explored with her sidewalk chalk, Crayola crayons and art kits. She liked to bring a small sketchbook to class in junior high school. Her favorite topic to draw then was houses. She received her bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Brandeis University in 1999. During this time she focused mostly on sculpture, but did work with drawing and painting as well.

Although it took her quite some time to gain confidence in her writing, Brenda now enjoys sharing her new stories with colleagues and her first grade students. She appreciates their feedback and welcomes their suggestions for improvement.

Brenda still does love to draw houses, but now will try anything. She is currently working on pencil drawings of otters, mixed media collages of her book titled "The Runaway Snowball," and acetate paintings and collage of her newest character Vernon M. Borghurst. She has several fun, adventurous stories in the editing phase that have Vernon M. Borghurst as the main character.

As a member of SCBWI Brenda meets weekly with her writing critique group and monthly with her illustrating critique group. She can still be seen with her box of 64 Crayolas happily working away.
