Brenda Bokenyi has written many picture books for young children. They range from short poetry fit for two year olds to longer narratives about challenging social topics for children. Please read and enjoy some samples below.

Vernon M. Borghurst

"Alfred's pet pigs, number 1 and number 3, were hungry. When the pigs ate their cucumbers, potatoes and carrots their smiles grew larger. "Buurrp." Number 1 rolled on his back, pleased from his feast."

An excerpt from the first of many picture books in a series about a playful character named Vernon M. Borghurst, or Alfred for short.

"I pushed and plodded my way through the snow,

Made an icy ball and readied to throw.

My brother ran to the perfect place.

I threw the snowball smack in his face!"

This text is part of a rhyming picture book that Brenda wrote titled "The Runaway Snowball." This story is about a snowball that grows to an uncontrollable size and makes an exciting journey through town.

I am an otter.

This is your view

Of my sweet life

Here at the zoo.

I sleep at night

In a quiet pool.

The room is dark,

Silent and cool.

An excerpt from a poem that Brenda wrote after observing some very active and interesting river otters at the Norwalk (Connecticut) Aquarium.

Three fishes story sample coming soon.

This story was written in response to the death of Brenda's dad. Death is a challenging topic for children to grasp. Brenda wrote this story both in memory of her dad and to help children grieve when they have a loss.
